Water In Our Petrol Tanks?

For months in Australia, we all have had troubles as per how we would be able to fill up our car's petrol tanks when the petrol prices were soaring like they have never soared before. For months, we have tried to find ways and even alternative answers to this dilemma that all car owners were facing. If only water could be used as fuel for our vehicles, we would have done so even before. But is it possible to use water as fuel in cars?

Of course, many people would answer no. And many scientists have tried looking for ways to actually make and create a vehicle that could run on water as fuel. And it looks like their efforts have not been put to waste.

Water Usage

You see, the HyPower Fuel Inc. has already announced to the world that they have been able to successfully make a vehicle run and function with only water as its main source of fuel. The company also did share that the vehicle is just an ordinary Volkswagen GTI with also ordinary Volkswagen car parts making up the vehicle. But the only thing not so ordinary about this Volkswagen GTI is the fact that underneath its hood, HyPower has installed an H2 Reactor (or H2R) hydrogen system.

The H2R hydrogen system is actually a system that has the capacity to produce the right amount of hydrogen that the vehicle needs. And all it needs is water so as to create the much needed hydrogen. This system makes use of electrolysis which actually converts water so much so that it becomes hydrogen petrol or oxygen petrol. And when this has been done, the petrol can then be used to give the vehicle power to do what it has been meant to do.

Doug Bender is the president of HyPower and he does share, “This is an extremely significant advance in that a vehicle with a standard internal combustion engine can be powered with hydrogen produced onboard as needed. Other hydrogen vehicles require special storage tanks to supply the highly compressed petrol to the engine. This is not yet a practical application as there are simply very few available refueling stations for these vehicles.”

He stated:

"HyPower currently produces the Hydro Power Pak (HPP)—a retrofit hydrogen generation and injection device developed for use on tractor trailer rigs and stationary diesel engines to improve fuel economy, reduce emissions and increase engine performance and horsepower. The HPP electrolysis unit draws less than 10 amps of the engine’s electrical current to produce a small amount hydrogen and oxygen, which is then injected into the combustion cycle."

Company management is quick to point out that these are preliminary laboratory results using prototype H2R units and will require considerable improvements before any practical transportation application can become a reality. The company plans to host a number of live demonstrations in early 2007 with independent experts in attendance to monitor and verify resulting data.

HyPower believes that its H2 Reactor’s electrolysis process is the most efficient to date. Currently the H2 Reactor requires 1 watt hour to produce 1 liter of hydrogen—approximately 2 to 2.5 times more efficient than the current performance of competing technologies.

We have now successfully created a situation where a car could run on water and produce virtually no harmful emissions or greenhouse gases. We will continue to beta test the H2R system to strive for increased efficiency.
